About Me!

 Hi there!

My name is Emily Permuy! I'm a flooring sales specialist for Lowe's and a full-time student online at Oregon State University. I currently reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I moved to the Springs a little over two years ago and, while I miss the ocean, Colorado has been a wonderful experience.

I'm just getting started on my degree, and I'm majoring in Botany. That might change soon, however, as I believe Horticulture may align more with my career interests. But right now is all about the prerequisites! This is my second term in college.

As I mentioned, I work at Lowe's. I started out in the garden center which got the ball rolling towards working with plants as a long-term career. My strongest consideration is working in the nursery industry, but beyond that, I'm not getting stuck in any specifics. As long as plants are involved, I think I'll be happy.

When I have free time, which is brief and inconsistent, you're most likely to catch me spending time with my boyfriend, hiking, or crocheting. I have more hobbies than I can even count, but crocheting has stuck with me since I was 9 years old (I'm 21!). My current projects are a temperature blanket and a sweater that I might be able to wear next winter. Hiking is one of my favorite things to do, especially because it combines a lot of my interests. I am one to smell the roses and look at every little clump of moss and mushrooms and identify every bird I see. My boyfriend and I took a trip in February to the Pacific Northwest to visit national parks for my birthday. Redwoods, North Cascades, and Olympic were the best places I think I have ever been in my life. I also got to visit campus when we were in Oregon :)

I am full of fun facts. Did you know the Colorado state dinosaur is a stegosaurus? I've been obsessed with dinosaurs my entire life. But my most interesting trait is perhaps my hypermobility, which is a blessing and a curse. It freaks a lot of people out but it's normal to me! Besides that, I have a bearded dragon, named Wesley after the Princess Bride (and from Star Trek). He's the most chill lizard you'll ever meet.

For online communication, I am looking forward to refining my skills and working on making connections with other people. I primarily use Instagram and Snapchat to maintain connections, but for my friends and family, I mostly communicate with them via texts/calls. The latter is more immediate and is often a necessity. At work, emails and other online communications are a part of my responsibilities. This is my very first communication course. My goal for this term overall is to stay ahead of work and not let myself get overwhelmed by anything. To be more class-specific, my goal is to be more comfortable with communicating online and overcoming some of my social anxiety this way.
